PRACTICAL GUIDE · 13 OCTOBER 2026

Write a home-project brief before requesting quotes

Describe the result you want and the boundaries the work must respect.

Start with the outcome

Explain what should be different when the work is complete. Identify the part of the property involved and distinguish the essential result from optional improvements. Images can communicate a preference, but they do not replace measurements, assessment or a written scope.

Name the constraints

List timing, access, occupied areas and any materials or finishes you want discussed. Do not assume an unseen condition can be priced accurately from a description. Ask the appropriate qualified professional which assessments, permissions or approvals may be needed.

Keep the first brief comparable

Send the same general scope when seeking options, then record proposed changes separately. Keep personal information and sensitive property details limited to what is genuinely needed. This guide supports preparation; it is not construction, engineering or safety advice.
